Classification Of Gas Springs

Mar 25, 2023

According to its characteristics and different application fields, gas springs are also known as support rods, gas supports, recliners, air pressure rods, dampers, etc. According to the structure and function of gas springs to classify, gas springs include free type gas springs, self-locking gas springs, traction gas springs, random stop gas springs, swivel chair gas springs, gas pressure rods, dampers and so on. The products are widely used in automobiles, aviation, medical equipment, furniture, machinery manufacturing and other fields.

First, the free gas spring (Lift gas spring) is the most widely used gas spring. It mainly plays a supporting role, only the shortest and longest two positions, and cannot stop itself during the stroke. It is most widely used in automobile, textile machinery, printing equipment, office equipment, construction machinery and other industries. With its lightweight, stable work, convenient operation and preferential price, free type gas spring has been widely used in automobiles, engineering machinery, printing machinery, textile equipment and other industries. Or cold environment, acidic or alkaline environment, etc.

Second, self-locking gas springs (recliners, controllable gas springs) are the most used in medical devices. This kind of gas spring can be stopped at any position in the stroke with the help of some release mechanisms, and there is a large locking force (can reach more than 10000N) after stopping.

Third, random stop gas springs (friction gas springs, balanced gas springs) are mainly used in kitchen furniture, medical equipment and other fields. Its features are somewhere between free and self-locking gas springs: it does not require any external structure and can be stopped anywhere in the stroke, but without additional locking force. The effect is mainly achieved by the controller (handle or cable). It can also be achieved by retracting the piston rod. When the controller is adjusted in the ideal position, the valve closes independently and the piston rod locks in the required position. Locking can be implemented when it occurs. However, if the locking force is exceeded, the locking function will no longer be effective.

Fourth, the swivel chair gas spring (air pressure rod) is mainly used in the swivel chair to adjust the position. It is characterized by controllability and relatively large demand.

Fifth. Traction gas spring (gas traction springs) is a special gas spring: other gas springs are in the longest position when they are in the free state, that is, they move from the longest position to the shortest position after receiving external force, while the free state of the traction gas spring is in the shortest position, and runs from the shortest place to the longest place when being traction. There are also corresponding free type and self-locking type in traction type gas springs.

Damper (Damper) is used more in automobiles and medical equipment, and its characteristic is that the resistance changes with the speed of operation. It can obviously cushion the speed of the connected mechanism. The damper is mainly used for cushioning, and its biggest feature is that the force of the gas spring changes with the change of movement speed. When the action point of the force guiding the gas spring moves relatively quickly, the resistance of the spring increases significantly, and when the action point moves very slowly, the resistance is almost nothing. Dampers are mainly used in washing machines, refrigerators and other industries.

In addition, from the material, there are ordinary steel gas springs and stainless steel gas springs. Ordinary steel gas spring is the largest, stainless steel gas spring is mostly used in places with more demanding environmental requirements, such as food machinery, medical equipment, military industry, high temperature characteristics and applications.
